How to Resolve Criterion Hub Warning “Too many words for the selected match type”? (Amazon Ads Only)

In this article, I will show you how to resolve the Criterion Hub warning “Too many words for the selected match type.”

This warning can appear in Criterion Hub on your Suggestions Review table when you are reviewing criteria suggested by Adspert for your advertising campaigns.

It means you need to review the suggestion and either reject it or edit the match type.

Step 1: Identify the Warning

Hover over the red exclamation mark in the “Destination” column. It should read “Too many words for the selected match type”.

If this checks out, proceed to the next step.

If not, check the Help Center for instructions to solve another warning type. If you can’t find what you’re looking for contact us via chat.

Step 2

There are two ways to solve the warning that there are too many words for the selected match type.

Option 1: Reject the Suggestion

Follow the link to find out how to reject a suggestion from Suggestions Review

Option 2: Adjust Match Type

On Amazon, keywords longer than four words are recommended to be added as exact keywords.

In this way, you can ensure that ads based on longer keywords are shown to users searching for these specific phrases. This ultimately helps you improve the relevance and performance of your ads. For example, if the keyword is "best hiking boots for women," you would add it as "best hiking boots for women".

So, another solution is to adjust the Match type from “Phrase keyword” and “Exact keyword” to only “Exact keyword”.

Here’s how:

  1. From the “Destination” column, click the three dots icon and select “Edit Destinations”.

2. You’ll see the same warning again on the right, under “Match Types”.

In the same row as the warning, click the edit icon to edit match types.

3. Exact and Phrase keyword match types are checked out.

4. Uncheck the box for the “Phrase Keyword” match type so you’re left only with the “Exact Keyword” match type. At this point, the red warning icon should automatically disappear. Click “Save”...

… and that’s it! The warning is resolved and you can accept the suggestion.
