Rules Advanced Mode: How to Create a Non-Filter Rule

Create a Non-Filter Rule in Rules Advanced Mode: A Step-by-Step Guide

Criterion Hub’s Rules Advanced Mode feature is truly advanced, especially when you create custom rules. Custom rules allow you specify exactly, down to the smallest details, how you would like to tell our advanced AI to add criteria such as keywords, ASINs, and placements to your advertising platform, accounts, campaigns or ad groups.

The Advanced Mode is only available for Adspert users with the Enterprise plan.

We’re not going to lie – at the first glance the process can get a tad overwhelming. This is an advanced feature after all. But with a bit of patience you'll get the hang of it in no time! This article guides you step by step how to create custom rules without filters in the Rules Advanced Mode.

Let's get started!

1. Open Rules

  • Go to Criterion Hub in the Adspert navigation and click on "Rules" in the dropdown.

2. Enable the “Rules Advanced Mode” (if you are using the Simplified Mode)

  • Simplified Mode is the default view on the Rules page. To change the view from “Simplified Mode” to “Rules Advanced Mode”, simply click the link in the introductory text. And, don't worry, you can revert back to the Simplified Mode at any time!

⚠️ Important: Switching back from Advanced to the Simplified Mode, will also delete all custom rules that you have created! Which is a great shortcut if you would like to wipe all rules with one click and start with a clean slate. However, if you would like to keep your custom rules, then you need to keep using the Advanced Mode.

3. Select the Level Where You Would Like to Create a Rule:

  • From the top of the table, choose the correct level on which you wish to create a Non-Filter Rule: platform, account, campaign, or ad group..

4. Select "Add/Edit Rule" Option:

  • In the Action column, click on the "..." icon for the chosen entity, then select "Add/Edit Rule."

5. Choose to Edit or Add a New Rule:

  • You can choose to either Edit the existing rule or Add a new one. Here’s the difference:

    • Editing a rule pre-populates all necessary fields with the current rule details.

    • Adding a new rule starts from scratch, with no information pre-populated.

6. Select a Rule Action:

  • Choose one of the three available actions for your Non-Filter Rule:

A. Review:

You will first need to review all criteria suggestions before on the Suggestions Review page. Adspert then adds only the criteria suggestions that you accept.

B. Add:

Select this option to automatically add the criteria suggestions to your advertising accounts.

C. Ignore:

Use this option if you do not want Adspert to suggest criteria for this entity.

7. Configure the Rule:

  • If you choose the "Review" action:

    • Define Destinations and their pages (optional) for customized suggestionsl.

    • You can skip this step if you prefer to set the Destinations manually on the Suggestions Review page.

  • If you choose the "Add" action:

    • Set Destinations and their Match Types or Types for precise criteria additions and management.

8. Define Product Ads Sync (only for Amazon Sponsored Products Auto ad groups)

⚠️ The “Product Ads Sync” section only shows up for users with at least one Amazon Sponsored Products Auto ad group!

When working with Amazon Ads Sponsored Products Auto to Manual connections, keeping the ads in sync is a must have. You need to make sure the ads are always relevant to the added keywords, ASINs and other qualified criteria.

Which can be a pain in the neck to do it manually, right? Here’s where Adspert steps in and automatically keeps your Auto and Manual campaigns in perfect sync with Product Ads Sync mappings.

When you edit a rule for an Amazon Ads Sponsored Products Auto Ad Group and select an existing ad group as the destination, you'll see more settings options in the “Product Ads Sync” section. Here, you can define if and how you want Adspert to keep the Product Ads from your Auto and Manual campaigns in sync.

A very simple table shows you:

  • Source Ad Group

Amazon Sponsored Products Auto ad group (if there is one) that the Manual ad group is currently synced with

  • Destination Ad Groups
Amazon Sponsored Products Manual ad groups

  • Mode

From the Mode column you can see what Adspert does with the Sponsored Product Ad Groups between the source and the destination. There are 2 different modes: Add missing and Overwrite.

  • Actions
Here you can define how Adspert should keep the product ads in sync.

If a Destination does not have a Source Ad Group (no current sync source):

If a Manual ad group has no current sync source, you can set one of the following 3 actions:

  • Add missing” (default)
Product Ads from the Auto ad group that are not in the Manual ad group are added. Ads in the Manual ad group that are not in the Auto ad group are not removed.

  • “Overwrite”
All the ads in the Manual destination ad group are overwritten by those in the Auto source ad group, so as to keep the ads 100% in sync. One thing to keep in mind is that the destinations created by Adspert will always have the Overwrite mode which you cannot edit.

  • No sync”
Removes the existing sync, but doesn’t set up a new one, meaning you will have to maintain the product ads manually to make sure everything is making sense in terms of the products advertised.

If a Destination is currently synced with a different Auto ad group (not the one you are currently editing a rule for):

A source (Auto ad group) can have several Product Ads sync destinations. A Manual ad group (destination), on the other hand, can only be synced with one source.

If a Manual ad group (destination) is currently synced with a different Auto ad group (source) than you can set one of the following 4 actions for the one you are editing a rule for:

  • “Keep current sync source” (Default)
The sync source for the Manual ad group will not be changed.

  • Add missing”
The previous product ads sync mapping will be deleted, and a new one will be created. Product Ads from the new Auto ad group that are not in the Manual ad group are added. Ads in the Manual ad group that are not in the new Auto ad group are not removed.

  • “Overwrite”
The previous product ads sync mapping will be deleted, and a new one will be created. All the ads in the Manual ad group are overwritten by those in the new Auto ad group, so as to keep the ads 100% in sync. One thing to keep in mind is that the destinations created by Adspert will always have the Overwrite mode which you cannot edit.

  • No sync”
Removes the existing sync, but doesn’t set up a new one. This means you have to manually maintain the product ads to make sure everything makes sense in terms of the advertised products.

What do the “Create” options in the Product Ads Sync section mean (e.g. “Create Keyword Ad Group” or “Create Exact Campaign”?

The “Create …“-options are Adspert clones of the Auto ad group needed for the product ads sync. They are not editable, read only, and always set to Overwrite action.

9. Save Your Non-Filter Rule:

  • Once you're satisfied with the rule configuration, click the "Save" button to implement the Non-Filter Rule.
