New campaigns: ALWAYS start with Cost/Day goal!

If you just started using Adspert OR you set up new campaigns, we strongly advise you to ALWAYS set a cost per day goal to your Performance Group. Why?

Because this is a part of the super important learning phase that we strongly recommend to each and every new Adspert user.

Like anything and anyone, also our AI needs a bit of time to learn about your campaigns - a short learning phase. Just like your new employee. When you welcome a new team member, you probably give them some time to get their head around of how things work, right?

Learning phase in 3 steps:

  • Create only one Performance Group per platform (or marketplace).

  • Assign all your campaigns to it and set a Cost/Day goal.

  • Let it run for 2-3 weeks.

⚠️Important!

This learning phase setup works in about 95% of cases. Here are 2 common exceptions:

  1. You connected two or more advertising accounts to Adspert AND some of them are ecommerce accounts (Amazon Ads or eBay Ads) and some are search accounts (Google Ads or Microsoft Ads)

  2. You have very marketplace-specific goals or a fixed budget for two or more different marketplaces.

After the learning phase is finished, you can create more Performance Groups, regroup your campaigns and set performance-based goals. Keep reading to learn about best practices and in this article.

2 Common Exceptions With a Different Learning Phase Setup

The first exception is if you have connected to Adspert two or more advertising accounts AND some of them are ecommerce accounts (Amazon Ads or eBay Ads) and some are search accounts (Google Ads or Microsoft Ads). Ecommerce and Search campaigns have very different goals and costs. You simply bid on different things and also differently measure the success of those campaigns. In this case, I recommend you create two Performance Groups. Assign ecommerce-related campaigns to one and search-related campaigns to the other Performance Group.

The second exception is if you have very marketplace-specific goals or a fixed budget for two or more different marketplaces. For example, your budget for Germany is 500€ and the budget for the UK is 1000€. If you put the campaigns from both marketplaces to the same Performance Group, Adspert might allocate more budget to one of them. If you need to make sure to spend 500€ for Germany and 1000€ for the UK, then I recommend you create two Performance Groups. Assign Germany-specific campaigns to one and UK-specific campaigns to the other Performance Group.

What if I want to set a performance-based goal (ACoS, ROAS …)?

Yes - after the learning phase.

We understand, it is tempting to set a performance based goal such as ACoS, ROAS, or Cost per Conversion. And you can - after the learning phase is finished.

Cost/Day goal gives our AI the best flexibility

Here’s the deal with the learning phase and cost per day goal: the cost per day goal gives the Adspert algorithm the best flexibility.

In the learning phase Adspert needs flexibility to allocate the budget between the campaigns where they generate the best results. This is how our smart AI gets to know your market, products, test out different bids and collect as much data as possible.

By using a performance based goal such as those mentioned above the algorithm is limited in its learning curve which can be counterproductive in the beginning.

The same rule applies when you are starting to optimize new campaigns as well, not only when you start working with Adspert for the first time.

When can I set a performance-based goal (ACoS, ROAS …)?

Did you finish the learning phase? Good. Now, before you change the goal from cost per day to performance-based goal, check if the conditions are right.

What if I don’t start a learning phase? What happens if I don’t set up a cost per day goal?

Adspert will still optimize your PPC campaigns. BUT you will most likely start seeing the results later than usual. Or your increase will be more gradual.

We recommend making use of the learning phase to most probably have better and faster results.
