A Performance Group (also known as PG) is a group of campaigns that are optimized towards a shared optimization goal, like Maximizing Sales or achieving a specific ACoS.

To reach that goal more effectively, group campaigns that have something in common - such as products, similar ACoS values or other metrics - into the same Performance Group.

Follow two core principles to get the best results from day one:

  1. Pair apples with apples, and

  2. Less in more

Why Do I Need To Create Performance Groups?

To optimize campaigns with Adspert, you need to add them to a Performance Group. Only then can Adspert's AI optimize all campaigns within a PG towards the goal you set.

If you just started using Adspert, creating your Performance Group might feel a bit unfamiliar. But don't worry.

When deciding how to group your campaigns into PGs, just follow two simple principles:

  1. Pair apples with apples

  2. Less is more

Let me explain.

1. Pair Apples With Apples

Pairing apples with apples means grouping campaigns that have something in common into the same Performance Group.

Why is that important?

Because Adspert optimizes all campaigns in a PG toward the same goal. A single campaign can only belong to one Performance Group at a time.

So keeping similar campaigns together helps our AI make smarter, faster decisions.

Group your campaigns based on similar:

  • Performance

  • Products (e.g. bestsellers, low performers)

  • ACoS

  • Number of conversions (e.g. high number of conversions, low number of conversions)

  • or any other shared characteristics

You can add as many campaigns to a single Performance Group as you want. There is no limit.

We do not recommend you to create a single Performance Group with only one campaign. You’ll achieve best results with grouping similar campaigns.

So: grouping by similar product or ACoS is quite straightforward. But what if you want to group your campaigns by number of conversions? Or have fixed budgets in different marketplaces?

We’ve got you covered – keep reading. 👇

2. Less Is More

You don’t need dozens of Performance Groups to see strong performance.

Most sellers get better results with fewer, well-structured groups.

As a rule of thumb: it’s better to start with around 10 PGs than 100.

A simpler structure is easier to manage, for both you and Adspert.

And that's it. Stick to those two principles: similar campaigns, simple structure, and you will be set up for success.

2 Common Ways How to Group Your Campaigns Into PGs:

  1. By number of conversions

  2. By fixed budgets and different marketplaces

See step-by-step instructions below. 👇

Group Campaigns Based on Number of Conversions

These are general guidelines on how to group your campaigns based on the number of conversions that they have.

Create 3 Performance Groups:

  1. Campaigns with (almost) no conversions

  2. Campaigns with few conversions

  3. Campaigns with solid number of conversions

The easiest way to do this is to use Filters in the Performance Group creation process. First, follow the instructions in the article How to Create a New Performance Group?.

When you get to the Campaign selection (step 3), use filters:

  1. Add Filter > Select Conversions

  2. Select Conversions and depending on your PG do the following:

    1. Campaigns with no conversions: “Is lower or equal to” > Input “3”

    2. Campaigns with very few conversions: “Is between” > Input “3” and “10”

    3. Campaigns with solid number of conversions: “Is greater than or equal to” > Input “10”

  3. Click Apply

  4. Check & select Campaigns

Then click Save and continue with the PG creation process

Group Campaigns with Fixed Budgets in Difference Marketplaces

If you run campaigns with fixed budgets in different marketplaces, then create separate Performance Groups.

Practical example:

You are advertising in Germany, and have a fixed budget of €500 per month. You are also advertising in the US, and have a fixed budget of $1,000 for those campaigns.

In this case, you should create two Performance Groups:

  • One for your German campaigns, and

  • Another PG for your US campaigns

In that way, you make sure each PG stays aligned with its own budget.
