Guide: Creating a Rule for Generic Campaigns in the Criterion Hub (Enterprise Only)

Ensure that brand and competitor keywords are excluded from generic campaigns in existing setups at the ad group level.

1. Open Rules in the Criterion Hub

1.1 Go to the Criterion Hub in Adspert.

1.2. Click on the “Rules” tab.

1.3. Select the ad group level, since you're working with existing campaigns.

2. Select your Generic Campaign by filtering for generic campaigns.

3. Click on ‘Apply filter’ to see your generic ad groups

3. Choose the adgroup you want to define the rule for.

3.1. Go into the rule of adding keyword and Click on “Add/Edit Rule”.

4. Click on “Edit Rule” and on the next page, activate the filter mode by clicking on the words “Filter Rules mode”.

5. Apply filters for your generic ad group by making sure the review mode is chosen. Open the filter and choose

  • Under filter type “keywords”

  • Under filter operation “does not contain”

  • Under filter values “ the terms you want to be excluded” , e.g brand keywords (everything you don't want to be contained in your generic campaign)

6. Scroll down to the “Catch-All Sub-Rule” and click on edit

7. Choose Action ignore and confirm the rule setting

The rule is defined

Repeat the process for any other relevant generic ad groups.

Additional advice:

All campaigns are currently set to “Review” status — this is intentional to ensure that brand, competitor, and generic keywords stay properly separated in your campaigns.
