How to Create a Rule to Automatically Create Sponsored Products Manual Campaigns Including Brand-Related Keywords (Enterprise Plan & Amazon Ads Only)

This is a step-by-step guide on how to adjust Criterion Hub rules to automatically create Sponsored Products Manual campaigns with brand-related keywords for your Amazon Ads account.

Are you looking for an automated way to create separate Manual campaigns based on your Sponsored Products Auto campaign for:

  • Keywords related to your brand?

  • Competitor-related keywords?

  • Generic keywords?

If yes, then this could be a real time-saver for you!

Attention: only users with Enterprise plan. So if you are a Lite or Standard user, you cannot create these campaigns in this particular way.

Before we start, make sure that you have:

  • Enterprise plan subscription

  • Turned on Rules Advanced Mode (check this from Criterion Hub > Rules)

  • At least one connected Amazon Ads account

  • At least one optimized Sponsored Products Auto campaign

You got it all? Great, let’s go!

I will walk you through all the steps on how to create Sponsored Products Manual brand, competitor and generic campaigns based on a Sponsored Products Auto campaign.

Step 1: Create a Manual Campaign With Brand Keywords Based On Your Sponsored Products Auto Campaign

1. Open Criterion Hub. Select "Rules" and click the “Accounts” tab.

Choose the Amazon Ads account to which you want your rule to apply. Click the arrow on the very right side. A drop down opens.

2. From the drop-down, select “Sponsored Products Auto”.

The entire rule for the selected Sponsored Products Auto campaign opens up. Important note: Do NOT select any of the other two options – it is important you select only “Sponsored Products Auto”!

3. Edit the Rule: Find the row that says “Add keyword” in the “Rule” column.

Important: make sure you have this exact rule in front of you! For you to have the correct setup, you MUST modify the “Add keyword” rule (and not any of the other options shown on the screen, e.g. exclude keywords, add ASIN PAT, exclude ASIN PAT).

After you’ve made sure you have the “Add keyword” rule in front of you, click the three dot icon on the right side of the table. Select “Add/Edit Rule” option.

4. A pop-up opens. Click "Duplicate & Edit Rule".

5. Now edit the duplicated rule: scroll down to see “Match Types” on the right. Delete the “Create Keyword Ad Group” match type by clicking the red “X” on the far right.

After you delete the “Create Keyword Ad Group” match type, your Match Type selection should look like this:

6. Under “Destination” on the left, click “Brand/ Competitor/ Generic Campaigns” and select “Brand Campaign & Ad Group”.

7. On the right side under “Match Types” an additional option appears “Create Brand Campaign”. Check the boxes next to “Exact Keyword” and “Phrase Keyword”.

8. Scroll up to define your brand keyword: create a filter

Just click on “Add Another Filter”

Under “Filters” select the following:

  • Filter type: Keywords

  • Filter operation: Contains

  • Filter values: type the name of your brand in the box. You can add more than one brand name.

Delete the default rule setting if you wanted to. You might not even see this filter if you have removed it before. In this case you can simply add the keyword contains filter.

The “Action” is set to “Review” by default and this is ok as it is.

You have created a Sub-Rule that specifies how to create a brand campaign.

Now you should add another Sub-Rule to create a competitor campaign.

Step 2: Create Competitor Campaign

9. Scroll down and click the button “Add Another Sub-Rule”

10. Sub-Rule #2 editing window opens. Scroll down to “Destination”. Click “Brand/ Competitor/ Generic Campaigns” option and select “Competitor Campaign & Ad Group”.

11. On the right side under “Match Types” an additional option appears “Create Competitor Campaign”. Check the boxes next to “Exact Keyword” and “Phrase Keyword”.

12. Scroll up to define your competitor: create a filter

Under “Filters” select the following:

  • Filter type: Keywords

  • Filter operation: Contains

  • Filter values: type your competitor’s name in the box. You can add more than one brand name.

You are finished with creating a Sub-Rule that defines how to create a competitor campaign.

There’s one more part left: add a third Sub-Rule to create a generic campaign. Let’s go!

Step 3: Create Generic Campaign

Until this point you have defined sub-rules to create:

  • Brand campaign - includes keywords related to your brand

  • Competitors campaign - includes keywords related to your competitors

Now you should create the last, third sub-rule that will catch keywords that don’t belong to a brand and competitor campaign. You need a generic campaign.

This is how you set it up:

13. Scroll all the way down to the “Catch-All Sub-Rule” section. Hover over the down arrow and click “Edit”. Catch-All Sub-Rule editing window opens.

14. Scroll down to “Destination”. Click “Brand/ Competitor/ Generic Campaigns” option and select “Generic Campaign & Ad Group”.

15. On the right side under “Match Types” an additional option appears “Create Generic Campaign”. Check the boxes next to “Exact Keyword” and “Phrase Keyword”.

16. As the last step, you need to save all three sub-rules that you’ve just created. Click “Confirm” and that’s it! You should see your customized rule from the table where you started editing the default rule (Accounts > Amazon Ads Demo Account (Clothing) > Sponsored Products Auto > from the Rule column see “Add keyword” row – check if your rule settings are correct).

This is how you can customize a default rule of your Sponsored Products Auto campaign so it will automatically create Brand, Competitor and Generic campaigns on Account level.

If you would like to do the same on Campaign level, you can! At the beginning simply click the “Campaign” tab and then follow the same steps as described above.
