Performance Group goals are the main targets of your advertising campaigns driven by Adspert. Once optimization is running, you’ll want to check progress toward the set goal and possibly adjust it.

This article covers two parts:

  • How to adjust a goal

  • How to review goal values effectively, with practical examples

Every time you adjust a goal or a goal value, pay special attention to the review step that follows. When editing an existing goal or assigning a goal to a new Performance Group, Adspert evaluates the proposed value against several reference points — whether it falls within the 30-day scenario range, whether the goal was changed only recently, whether it is within +/- 20% of historic values, whether it is within +/- 20% of the current goal, and whether it is at least 80% of the daily campaign budgets. It does not always check all of these aspects at once but instead determines the relevant combination to review for each case. Adspert reviews goal changes against several factors and checks only the relevant combination each time.
If some values seem a bit off, you will get a warning along with improvement recommendations.

1. How to adjust a goal

In the main navigation bar select "Control" -> "Performance Groups & Goals"
Find the Performance Group you want to update.

  • Hover over the Goal and click the "edit icon", or

  • Go to the "Actions" section and click on the "..." and select "Change Goal" or “Edit Performance Group” in the drop down list.

When editing an existing goal or setting a goal to a new Performance Group, Adspert reviews five different aspects:

  • Scenarios: Is the value in the 30 days Scenario range

  • Last Goal Change: The goal was changed only recently. It’s better to wait before making another change

  • Historic Values: Is the selected value in the +/-20% range to the historical value

  • Current Goal: Is the selected value in the +/-20% range of the current goal

  • Daily Budget: Is the selected value at least 80% of the daily campaign budgets

Note: It doesn’t check all of them every time. It determines which combination to check, and then checks only that.

We’ll go into more detail about these aspects in the review section below.

2.Review the goal

Every time you adjust a goal, Adspert reviews how the new value compares to the previous one. If something looks off, you’ll see a warning along with improvement recommendations.

Suitability Indicators:

  • Green - Goal values are ok

  • Orange - Goal values should be improved

  • Red - Goal values are off and must be changed.
You can still proceed with a red warning, but results are likely to be poor and may cause performance drops.

Let's illustrate with an example where a Performance Group has an ACoS goal:

  • Current goal value: 18% ACoS

  • Current Performance Group value: 18.7% ACoS

  • New goal value: 5% ACoS

Review outcome:

  • Circle is red (critical) → goal needs improvement to reach green.

  • Warnings shown:
    - not in the 30 days scenario range: see explanation below.
    - not in the +/-20% range of the current goal: 14.40% - 21.60%
    - not in the +/-20% range of the historic value: 14.96% - 22.44%

Below the goal, you’ll see the Scenario curve, which helps review changes:

***
The narrowest shadow = goal value most within reach.

The wider the shadow = the more unrealistic the goal.
***

Click on any point on the curve to preview how the new goal would affect the circle. Ideally, it should turn fully green.

New goal value: 16% ACoS
- in the 30 days scenario range
- in +/-20% range of the current goal: 14.40% - 21.60%
- in +/-20% range of the historic value: 14.96% - 22.44%

Click “Save” to confirm goal adjustments. Adspert will begin optimizing connected campaigns toward the new goal.

Note on Performance Groups and Goal Review

Any change to a Performance Group — such as moving, adding, or removing campaigns — requires a goal review, please jump to the step 2. Review the Goal.

It’s not necessary to cover all possible scenarios here, as detailed step-by-step instructions.
The key takeaway: after every adjustment, always check the goals, regardless of how the change was made.

Example use cases:

In short: goal review is essential after every change, and detailed instructions can be found in the linked articles.
